Let me just begin my telling you a little bit about myself. My name is Katie Brady, I am 26 years old and I was raised here in Winston Salem, NC. I am an avid animal lover and love all of my furry children. I strongly support animal rescue and adoption. You will probably see a lot about this on my page. I am a tattoo artist, piercer and now the proud owner of Genuine Ink Tattoo & Piercing located in Winston Salem, NC. I also have a cake decorating business called KD Baby Cakes, which is something I enjoy doing in my free time. I have always been interested in art since I was a child. I dabbled in a few different areas, attending Cosmetology school in 2005, attending some classes for Fashion Design, but I finally decided to pursue a career in tattooing 3 years ago. Now on to how I got started in this industry. I wasn’t sure I was going to find anyone willing to give me a chance but I was very lucky and honored to land an apprenticeship at a local tattoo shop. I was mentored by a very credible artist/shop owner who does amazing work. He taught me the skills I needed to become a tattoo artist and gave me an opportunity to pursue my dream. I will forever be thankful to him and his wife. I began my tattoo apprenticeship February of 2009 and by the end of the year I was a professional licensed tattoo artist. While taking my apprenticeship I got the offer to learn piercing as well, looking at it as a smart business choice I decided to go ahead with it. I have been piercing since 2009 also. I worked at that shop until June of 2012 when I unexpectedly decided it was time for me to find a new environment to work in. My choice to leave was a shock to both myself and the people in my life. I was saddened about my decision but felt it was something I needed to do at the time. This left me in a situation where I was a little unsure about my career. Within days I was much honored to have a quite few job offers from both local and out of state shops. After much thought and many sleepless nights of trying to figure out what my next move was going to be I decided it was time for me to take the next big step in my career and become a shop owner. My family and boyfriend were more than supportive and I couldn’t have done any of this without them. I wouldn’t be where or who I am today without my family. I admit I was apprehensive at first about opening up my own shop but this quote pretty much sums it up. “If you never take the chance to find out what could be, then you lose the chance to find out what would be.” This is something I am will willing to risk everything for. If I don’t succeed at least I can say I tried which is more than some can say. I know some of you reading this are probably thinking that I don’t have much experience in this line of work. Partly that is true. What I am hoping is that you will keep an open mind, take a look at my portfolio and let my work speak for itself. I am not ashamed to say I have only been tattooing such a short time because in that time I have built up a wonderful clientele base and have many many repeat customers which give me confidence in what I’m doing. You my clients are another reason I am here today. When I decided to make this move I received so much support from all of you, it made this transition so much easier for me. I value the relationship between me and my clients. I don’t look at myself as a superior; I look at us as equals and hope by respecting you I will then gain your respect. When you come to my shop I want us both to have a pleasurable and enjoyable experience. I am a very down to earth person and love chatting and laughing with my customers during our sessions. I want to do everything I can to make sure you are comfortable. I know that deciding to get a tattoo or a piercing can sometimes be a scary decision for some and I want to make that easier for you. My goal as a shop owner is to provide an inviting and CLEAN environment that makes you want to return. I am regulated by the Forsyth County Health department, A sterile environment is my number one priority and something I take very seriously. Please feel free to stop by the shop and check it out. I’ll be more than happy to assist you with any services you are looking for. I hope with all this being said you will be willing to become one of my clients and I look forward to working with each and every one of you.
