As our name states, we make our frozen custard fresh all day every day so you can enjoy the best experience that frozen custard has to offer. And if you knew how much love and care we put into each batch of Whit's frozen custard (we get there early!), you'd understand why we only feature three flavors: Vanilla, Chocolate, and Whit's Special Weekly Flavor.
Three flavors is all anyone needs to create an endless variety of flavor combinations when you consider all our fruit toppings, nuts, and candies that can be blended into custard to make our famous Whitser. And you can't go wrong with our hand-dipped waffle cones and all our other delicious treats. Lactose intolerant? Many people have found they can tolerate Whit's Frozen Custard! The Whit's Story...
The first Whit's Frozen Custard opened on March 3, 2003, in Granville, Ohio, at the end of one of the region's coldest and snowiest winters in years. Granville did not know what frozen custard was and many felt it would not survive. However, there was a destiny to Whit's beginning and, against all odds, mother nature could not delay Whit's inevitable success.
Chuck Whitman, working in his father's food service business, spent 21 years calling on restaurants, including popular soft-serve businesses throughout the Midwest. During this time, he also purchased an endless array of ice cream ingredients, and worked at a dairy manufacturing plant. His knowledge and affinity for the virtues of frozen custard grew over those years and he steadily explored perfecting a frozen custard recipe while sourcing supplies of the finest ingredients. Frozen custard became his passion.
His wife, Lisa, also shares this passion. Lisa and her family spent many years operating several ice cream establishments in the Columbus area. Chuck and Lisa Whitman have taken the secrets they have learned over the years and perfected it into one store. This explains the long lines every evening on a warm, summer night and why customers continue to come back for more - you can taste the quality and love in every scoop of Whit's Frozen Custard. Each Whit's location is individually-owned, not owned by a large corporation, ensuring terrific customer service and a high-quality product.
Melinda Moore moved from Granville, Ohio, to North Carolina in 2015 and quickly realized the need for freshly-made frozen custard in the Piedmont Triad area. She opened Whit's on April 27, 2016, with the same goal of becoming as popular and community-oriented as the original Whit's Frozen Custard.
