Hope Grows

Hope Grows is a Christian ministry that specializes in Asset-Based Development in South Sudan. Asset-Based development is helping people identify and utilize any skills and resources God has already given them in order to transform their own lives and communities.

We teach former refugees how to improve their own communities without relying on foreign aid. We use Bible studies, discipleship, community seminars, and agriculture to point to the truth that God is with us, wants us to thrive, and wants us to change the world around us.

We own a ten acre farm where we use agriculture to teach people how to better utilize their God given talents and resources. The farm is in the center of a village of 6000 people. From this vantage point we often hold Bible studies for small groups and community training seminars on various topics. We also support five full time missionaries. (3 local, 2 American).

We want to break the cycle of dependency on foreign aid by helping people see they already have God-given resources and skills that can be used for personal growth. Our approach to poverty alleviation is holistic in nature and therefore addresses all walks of life. We believe poverty can be defined as broken relationships with God, Self, Society, and Nature. This brokenness can result in spiritual, personal, social, or physical/economic poverty.

Everything we do is an avenue to build deep relationships and spread the Gospel. We want to communicate to the South Sudanese people that they can use what they have from God and who they are in Christ to make their new country a better place. We want to stop communicating to Africa that they need the West--that they do not have enough, or are not smart enough, or capable enough to achieve development without our guidance. Through this message we hope to revive dignity and awaken a spirit of hope and purpose in all African people.

Helping former refugees in South Sudan overcome dependency on foreign aid.
